Alright, time for a little reader response. I am pretty sure there are at least 20-25 readers of this blog, so I'm hoping for 15 different responses to this question:
What one book (I'm looking for something other than the Bible) has had the greatest impact on your life?
My answer:
Come on people; I know you're reading the blog, and I know you read books. So come out of anonymity and tell us which one has been most important to your life and thinking!
I know there are quite a few, but I would say that The Prodigal God by Tim Keller, The Pleasures of God by John Piper, and A Hunger for God also by Piper are all contending for 1st place. It's hard to pick!
ReplyDeletePicking 1 is tough! I narrowed it down to 15 on my website and thought that was good! http://marriedtoaballer.com/favorite-resources/favorite-books/all-time-favorites-life-changing-books
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick one, it would be Future Grace by John Piper.
There are many, but I have to single out "Living the Cross-Centered Life" by C.J. Mahaney and "The Pilgrim's Progress" by Bunyan as the top two right now. The first transformed my understanding of what is really means to be a Christian and latter always seems to be in my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteHave to go the Holiness of God by RC Sproul.
ReplyDeleteThree actually seems like a good number to choose...thanks Michelle. Living the Cross Centered Life by C.J. Mahaney, The Gospel According to Jesus by John McArthur, and Humility by C.J. Mahaney. Not sure about my number one...

Mere Christianity by CS Lewis and More Than A Carpenter by Josh McDowell - read both in college. Since then, Desiring God and/or Don't Waste Your Life by John Piper. It is hard to choose for sure.

Larry,
ReplyDelete"The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment" by Jeremiah Burroughs. EVERY Christian would be much encouraged, and changed, by the reading of this book!
"Christ's Call to Discipleship" by James Boice
ReplyDeleteGod used it to open my eyes to much of what I was blind to for 23 years. Particularly, that Jesus is not just to be Savior but Lord also.

I'm so very challenged by the autobiographies of three Christians -- Hudson Taylor, George Muller, and Corrie Ten Boom (The Hiding Place)-- that I've read them each several times.
ReplyDelete(I have an extra copy of Hudson Taylor's if anyone is interested.)
